RUNNING CLUB ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE, LAUNCHES MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

At its Annual General Meeting last month the Corner Brook Running Club elected a new slate of officers to take on the varied and numerous tasks of organizing races and other running events for 2010. Heading up the new team will be Bob Coleman as President and Dawn Hewlett as Vice-President. Coleman replaces Michael Coyne who is currently in Florida for the winter racing season and will now serve as Director at Large. Other members of the executive include Mervyn Dean (Secretary and Medical Coordinator), Sherry George (Director at Large), John Hiltz, Steve Howlett, Jacqueline Neville (Event Coordinators) and Jim Pike (Treasurer). Hewlett will also serve as an Event Coordinator. Contact information is available HERE.

The CBRC has also launched a membership drive which will bring substantial savings to those who join the club. For a $10 annual fee members will get a $5 discount on all races except the BMO Downtown Dash. That means 5K races will be free, and all other races will be $5 cheaper. Basically, the membership fee will pay for itself after just 2 races. They will also be eligible to purchase official CBRC apparel, which is now in the design phase, and will have a say on how the club evolves, with voting privileges at CBRC meetings.

A membership application can be downloaded here:

Coast2Coast Challenge

November 4, 2009

200911040923.jpg

In cooperation with the Lung Association, Newfoundland Labrador, the Corner Brook Running Club is asking that you consider participating in the Coast2Coast Challenge, a virtual trek across Canada to raise awareness about COPD, a serious breathing disease. From today to November 18th, keep track of the distance you exercise – you can count the minutes you walk on a treadmill, the kilometres you run or bike, the distance you swim or walk – any physical activity counts. Then report the distance you exercised to the NL Lung Association.

The COPD Awareness campaign for Western Newfoundland was officially launched this morning at the Pepsi Centre with help from Jacqueline Neville, member of the CBRC Executive. As runners, putting in the distance is our specialty, so let’s make all those kilometres count! We encourage you to register as a participant in the Coast2Coast Challenge by contacting the NL Lung Association:
